What is Allergy?
Well, an allergy is nothing but an exaggerated reaction which our immune system gives in response to exposure to specific foreign substances. The response is harmful as normally these foreign substances are usually seen by the body as harmless and non-allergic individuals do not produce a response. The body recognizes the foreign substance in case of allergic individuals and one arm of the immune system generates a response.

If any individual is allergic and he/she comes in contact with any allergen, then his/her immune system will generate a response via antibody. The allergy symptoms include the nose, eyes, lungs, gastrointestinal tract and skin. Though the various allergic diseases and signs of allergies may appear different, but they all result from an irregular immune response to foreign substances in sensitive individuals.
Types of Allergies:
As you know your immune system usually protects your body from the viruses and harmful bacteria, but sometimes it causes the seasonal allergies. So, in case you have seasonal allergies, then your this system will react strongly to harmless pollens. Seasonal allergies are also sometimes called hay fever. The common symptoms are that if you come in contact with an allergy trigger, your body releases the chemical histamine.
The other symptoms normally include sore throat, cough, puffy eyes, headache and tiredness. It’s not always easy to know what the reason behind causing the allergy symptoms is. But if you start sneezing and your nose runs, then you should make a note of it and tell the doctor about. Some people are prone to allergies on having some kind of food as for example peanut, egg, milk, etc. These are called normally food allergy symptoms and if someone has issues regarding drinking of milk, then it can be referred as milk allergy symptoms.
You can consult a doctor to test you to see what causes an allergic reaction and the most common is a skin prick test. Usually, some small amount of a possible allergy trigger will be placed on your skin and then your skin is gently pricked to allow it to go under the skin. In case you have swelling or redness, you are allergic. Some people even go for home remedies for allergy so as to avoid the allergy treatment prescribed by the doctor as it requires lots of medicines.
Normally, the treatment that the doctors give is some common medicines. The common medicines include antihistamines, corticosteroids, and decongestants. Treatments are available over-the-counter and by prescription. Your doctor will recommend a medicine based on what you are allergic to and how severe your allergies are.
